Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards for their work.

Before Toto was formed, members of the band performed session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of session drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggsalbum in 1975 Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in the year 1976.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics for the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group and the band held auditions for a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their album Fahrenheit in 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. The band dug through old tapes and recordings to create the album. The album was well-loved by fans and Toto embarked on an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included live recordings from the tour and also an interview with the group.

Toto is an American rock band formed in 1977 in Van Nuys, Greater Los Angeles. The group is made up of Steve Lukather (vocalist/guitarist), David Paich (bassist), Steve Porcaro (keyboardist/vocalist), Jeff Porcaro and Joseph Williams, guitarist/vocalist. The eclectic mix of influences in the group is what has made it one of the most popular groups ever. The music of the group was featured in more than 200 movies and television shows including The Godfather & The Prince of Egypt.

In 1983, the band released Toto IV, which earned them worldwide recognition. After the album's success The band embarked on a world tour in support of it. During the tour, lead vocalist Bobby Kimball was arrested on drug charges. The band decided to let him go at the conclusion of the tour and then hired singer/guitarist Joseph Williams in his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the band following the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.

The TOTO Museum is a futuristic structure with a variety of exhibition rooms dedicated to telling the story of the company and its most innovative products. The exhibits at the museum include toilets and faucets, as well as tableware which have contributed to the expansion of TOTO in the past half century. Toto has produced a number of music videos. The band has released a number of compilation videos and DVDs. The band's most popular video is "Africa", with over one billion views. The video takes place in a library and shows the band performing on top of a pile of books about Africa.

The track "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by band members and produced by David Paich. It was a huge success in Europe and other countries. The success of the single helped Toto regain their popularity following their previous album, Turn Back, failed to chart in the United States.

Toto embarked on a worldwide tour after the release of their album. The group was joined by touring backing musicians Lenny Castro, Shannon Forrest, Warren Ham and Shem von Schroeck. Steve Lukather also released his second solo album, Luke.

Before and during the time of Toto's creation, its members worked as session musicians for a diverse variety of artists. Drummer Jeff Porcaro and bassist David Hungate played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs which led to the band's formation. Keyboardist Paich was a regular on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

In 1998, Toto started working on the project titled Old Is New. The album featured three new tracks and several completed recordings of old songs. The album was a hit across the globe and the band embarked on a worldwide tour to promote the album.

The group Toto, best known for their hit song "Africa" Recently, the band came together for a concert tour to promote their new album, All In. The album came out on November 6, 2018, and included three brand new tracks from the upcoming 40 Trips Around the Sun, as well as recorded versions of four older tracks that featured Jeff Porcaro on drums and either Mike or Steve Porcaro on bass. The album also included the cover version of Weezer's song "Hash Pipe" that the band re-released after hearing it on the radio.

Toto has also recorded soundtracks for a variety of movies and television series.

Toto was formed in Los Angeles, California by friends from high school, David Paich, Steve Lukather and brothers Jeff and Mike Porcaro.
